webIRESS - Connection problems and drop-out's
Users who are experiencing connection problems and drop-out’s are recommended to run the WebIRESS Connection Test, you can view the connection test below;
Click to view WebIRESS Connection Test: http://web.iress.com.au/info/connectiontest.htm
When the page has opened you should see Connection Success then select Show Details. This will test the client’s internet connection between there Internet Service Provider and the WebIRESS data servers.
If the graph is showing that the user’s connection is Poor or below they will need to speak with there Internet Service Provider to have this problem rectified as there is no further support which MFGlobal or WebIRESS can provide.
webIRESS - Data displaying incorrectly
This article describes how to correct display issues when using the WebIress platform.
For users running a Widescreen laptop, sometimes the display can show blank areas within WebIress.
This issue is caused by the Font DPI settings specific to a widescreen laptop.
To fix this issue:
- Right click on your desktop and select the Properties option.
- Next, click on the Settings tab and select the Advanced button on the lower right of the screen.
- Next, click on the General tab.
- Under the Display setting, you will need to change the DPI Setting to Normal size (96 DPI). You may need to restart your computer for this to take effect.
After doing so, please log back into WebIress and your display should be restored to normal.
webIRESS - Firewall and Network Configuration
The client software will attempt to initiate a direct socket connection to port 6080 on the Data Feed server. When a direct connection is unavailable, a lower quality connection will be established via port 80 using the HTTP protocol. This connection will work via the same proxy used to retrieve web pages for the browser.
The direct connection via port 6080 is the recommended connection type for the most efficient operation of the product. Four conditions are necessary to use this product from behind a corporate firewall using port 6080:
-
The firewall must allow the users to establish an outbound TCP connection to the Data Feed server(s) on port 6080. All communications to the data is accomplished via this single connection, and can only be established from inside the firewall. Data Feed servers never initiate the connection to the desktop.
-
The firewall must be capable of operating in a "transparent" mode; i.e., it must look like a router to the network even if it is an application proxy type of firewall. Some, but not all proxy-based firewalls can be configured to operate in the required manner.
-
The users' network must be configured to route packets addressed to non-local networks through their Internet firewall. To accommodate the connection to a remote server the local LAN must be ready to handle traffic addressed to non-local hosts. A "default route" may or may not be currently configured on a corporate LAN where a proxy-based firewall is used.
-
The opening of a specified port on a firewall to initiate outward bound connection to a remote server does not pose a security threat to the local intranet/WAN. Special dispensation should be only provided to the server "WEBDF.IRESS.COM.AU", ie the ability to connect to port 6080 on that address. No inward bound connection can be instantiated by a remote address. This works in much the same manner a port 80 on a proxy server.
With either connection (port 6080 or HTTP port 80), the firewall being used must not remove Java applet tags from incoming HTML. Some firewalls can be configured to strip Java applet tags from incoming pages. This product cannot work through such a firewall unless special dispensation is given to HTML from the source server (WEB.IRESS.COM.AU).

webIRESS - Macintosh Support
Apple Macintosh browsers don't support standard Java installation technology used by Internet Explorer on Windows. Due to this limitation, Apple Mac is not officially supported to run webIRESS.
Although webIRESS does not officially support Apple Macintosh, users may access webIRESS via a later version of Mac OS X - Tiger. This version permits Java applets to operate in the Safari browser. The same basic requirements apply, with a compatible version of Java installed and browser configured to allow webIRESS.

webIRESS - Successful login but data update is slow
For heavy users of live data commands, it is possible to experience slowness due to the Java Plug-in in the web browser running out of memory. The default memory limit for the Java Plug-in is usually around 60-90 MB. We recommend increasing the memory limit for the Java plug-in to minimum of 128 MB or greater if your system allows. The amount of memory which can be increased depends on the version of the browser, Sun Java and in some cases toolbar add-ons.
- Click on Start.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Double click on the Java icon.
- Activate the Java Tab.
- In the Java Applet Runtime Settings section, click the View button.
- Select the most recent 'Version' of Java from the list, then double-click the Java Runtime Parameter field and add the following case sensitive text:
-Xmx128m
Note: Using -Xmx128m makes 128 MB of memory available for the Java Plug-in. You can also try a higher figure of 192MB, 256MB, or 512MB if your system allows. To use these values, replace the Java Runtime Parameter field contents with either -Xmx192m, -Xmx256m or -Xmx512m. After increasing the Java Virtual Memory, there should be a considerable reduction in CPU usage by the browser and speeding up of the data process. The CPU usage can be monitored via the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del, Processes Tab).
If re-logging in to the browser triggers errors such as "The Java Runtime Environment cannot be loaded" or "Application Error. The memory could not be read", please repeat the above steps and reconfigure the memory limit to a lower value.
webIRESS - When I try to login the page resfreshes (Pop-up Blocker)
When attempting to login to WebIress, you may notice that you recieve a message or a sound is played on your computer which indicates that the WebIress trading platform has been blocked/stopped from loading.
This is most likely due to the existence of Pop Up Blocking software that is installed on your personal computer. There are many types of popup blockers available on the Internet, but 3 of the most common are:
-
The inbuilt Microsoft Popup Blocked in Internet Explorer 6 and higher.
-
Yahoo! Toolbar
-
Google Toolbar
If you are running the inbuilt Microsoft Popup Blocker, you can configure it like so:
-
In Internet Explorer, click on the Tools menu and choose the Internet Options entry.
-
On the tabs at the top of menu, please click on the Privacy tab.
-
Look for the Pop-up Blocker section; if you have the Windows XP Pop-Up Blocker enabled, click on the Settings button.
-
In the box labeled, Address of Web site to allow, type in the following entry, making sure that it has no ‘www’ or ‘http’ prefixes attached: Iress.com.au. Then click the Add button on the right.
-
Next, click on the Filter Level drop-down and select Low: Allow pop-ups from secure sites option.
-
Click the Close button to return to the Privacy menu, and click OK to close the Internet options screen.
-
Restart your Internet Explorer browser to make sure the changes take effect.
If you are running an alternate pop-up blocker on your system, such Yahoo! or Google Toolbars, we recommend their removal from your system via the Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs list if you wish to run WebIress effectively.
webIRESS - When I try to login the screen is blank (white)
After attempting to login to WebIress, a blank (white) window may be displayed with only a 'https://web.iress.com.au/etc' address in the window Title Bar.
This issue usually occurs when you have an older incompatible version or no version of Sun Java installed on your system. Java is a required installation to run the WebIress program.
